By the way, I asked bnf to find out the copyright holder so we could ask permission to republish this image. With Mr Clark sadly no longer among us, it has proven rather difficult to find out who now owns the copyright. We have finally figured out why it is that people write these kind of disclaimers in their publications:

Every  effort has been made to secure permission to reproduce those images whose copyright does not reside with the V&A (…) Any omissions are entirely unintentional, and the details should be addressed to V&A publications.

rights infringement disclaimer in the V&A Ossie Clark publication

So also in this case, if you are the copyright holder, please contact us as soon as possible.

The reproduction being created by the Victoria and Albert Museum for the 2003-2004 Ossie Clark exhibition. Seeing how the images, I figu. The languages of the . Licensing, when talking about licensing music, literature, photography or typefaces for use in a specific context , it means . Museums, being copyright holders

The fee you pay to the V&A would just be for the licensing and supply of the image. Any fee payable for copyright would have to be sorted out between yourself and the rights holder. We (V&A Images) don't get involved in this. We just need to see that the rights holder has given permission.

V&A points me to the copyright database of the Harry Ransom Center, that lists Sheil Land Associates Ltd as the contact for Ossie Clark.

Thank you for your email but I’m afraid I have no record of us ever having represented Ossie Clark.

Back to V&A:

My best advice would be to contact DACS www.dacs.org.uk who should be able to help in finding the copyright holder.

Victoria and Albert museum sent me through to DACS.

I'm seeking the permission of the Copyright holder of the work of Ossie Clark, British fashion designer. I'm ordering a reproduction of a drawing of his via the V&A, and I want to seek permission to use it on my website.

I've checked the DACS Copyright Licensing Member Search and Raymond 'Ossie' Clark did not come up. I was wondering then if you could advise as to the best way to find the current copyright holder?

Thanks in advance,

PS contrary to the information of the WATCH database, Sheil Land Associates does not represent Ossie Clark.

Ossie Clark is not currently a DACS member and unfortunately we do not hold contact information for him.  We usually advise people to contact a museum or gallery that houses the artists' work who may be able to help you further. In this instance I would suggest the Fashion and Textile Museum - http://www.ftmlondon.org

Given your museum´s specialisation in fashion and especially London Fashion,
I was hoping you can help me with the following query:

Who is the copyright holder of the work of Ossie Clark, British fashion designer?

For my website I´m getting an image of his reproduced through the V&A museum.
For this I need permission of the copyright holder and since mr Clark has deceased I need to figure out who is holding the rights to his work now.
The V&A sent me through to DACS, and DACS sent me through to you, as experts in the domain.

I´d be delighted if you could send me in the right direction,

Thanks in advance,

PS one thing I figured out is that, contrary to the information of the WATCH database, Sheil Land Associates does not represent Ossie Clark.

Earlier in April I sent you an inquiry about the copyright holder for a British fashion designer,

I got no reply, perhaps you could direct me towards to the person in the organisation best suited for dealing with the question?

Sorry we cannot help you with your enquiry. I would recommend contacting Celia Birtwell's  who was Ossie wife
